Like a poster above mentioned, Queens, for example, has tons and tons of obese people.

So I don't think we can say NYC successfully makes people stay thin. It provides plenty of opportunity, but it never is leveraged fully by its residents
Obviously there are many parts where theres a majority of overweight/obese people (Harlem, Bed-Stuy, the Rockaways, parts of the Bronx, etc) but when comparing to the car-dominated parts of the US (the deep south, the midwest, etc), theres just no comparison. Example: NYC's obesity rate: 22.3%, Memphis' obesity rate: 35.2%, or, NYC's Overweight percentage: 53.4%, Miami's Overweight percentage: 65.8%.

When people say NYC they mean Manhattan. In that case, I voted for nightlife, public transportation, and fashion.

Speaking from exp - the fatties live in the poor nabes - no fresh food - constant 2/$1.00 grease sandwiches - poorly educated - no one at home to teach the young. it is a tragedy.

NYC goth scene circa 1990-95 / international food / Financial District architecture / So many awesome things about the city.
