Hi folks--

Just wondering if anyone has any general or specific ideas on where we could cheaply store 2 bikes in Manhattan, ideally in/near the UES. (We have no room in our tiny apartment!) Thanks in advance!

You can store bicycles at some garages in Manhattan. I would check around the neighborhood for rates/availability as I have not seen those posted on websites like nyc.bestparking.com. I have noticed bicycle rates at several garages recently where I have parked cars, so there are some spots for them.

Transportation Alternatives has some garages listed with parking facilities for bicycles: NYC Garages with Bicycle Parking | Transportation Alternatives The list is not comprehensive, however, since I know of garages that park bicycles in Lower Manhattan and Chelsea that are not listed, though one is around $100/month, IIRC.

Another option might be Manhattan Mini Storage on 62nd, or a similar company, where you can rent a small storage area for your bicycles. It would be less expensive than two permits at some garages, especially if they are around $100/each. And, they would likely be more secure than racks in some garages that may not be well monitored in garages that have public access. Just be sure that with a storage unit, you would have 24-hour access to your cycles, and could get them in and out without too much hassle.

Thanks bmwguydc-- We had come across the Transportation Alternatives site in our web searching too. A garage might be our most viable bet, but it's a bit pricier than we'd like. I guess we were hoping for a really cheap, little known option... One thought that crossed our minds is seeing if other apartment buildings on our block would be willing to rent out space to us, but I imagine that too would be at least $100/month. In any case, appreciate the help and info!
