I have a question about this area of the BX: I know this is the part that was affected by the arson of the 1970s and they replace these parts with suburban style homes, how are the streets with these kind of homes (Charlotte st. etc.)? Would you say they are affected by crime or are they actually quiet?

When I'm in the area, it's usually the buildings (there are a good amount still) and housing projects that are hot. The ranch like homes are home to middle class I think.
A few weeks ago I was in the neighborhood to go to the Optimum store on 174th st.Creepy.All sorts of stuff going on in broad daylight. After I was there I found out that there is an optimum store on Fordham Road. I never intend to going back there.
By the IHOP? It didnt seem that bad to me, ive used the bike lanes down 174 before as well.
Wow a whole 36 crimes? Thousands of people use the parks, things are bound to happen.
Like the article states they need more park police. Even just a NYPD SUV going around at certain hours to tell all the big groups to leave the park would help.
Ive been through alot of bronx parks, albeit on a bike, at night. Nothing happened to me(maybe its the flashing light i have on my bike) but i stopped once(By the Soundview houses) and talked to guys racing gas rc buggies in soundview park at like 11pm. They were pretty cool.
Very sensational, its nothing like CP in the 70-early 90s, for which i am surprised. The Bronx honestly is pretty safe if you dont look for trouble or just pay attention to what is around you.
That's at the mini plaza on 174st. It's not that bad, there just always seems to be some shady looking, loud, and rude characters at the Optimum/Cablevision stores.

Agreed, I once had the pleasure of going to the one on Soundview(which news 12 BX shoots, which is why you always see them reporting literally down the street, lazy people) and it was the worst experience ever. htey got plastic barriers like its a check cashing place and the people where loud and crazy. Contrast to one on LI, on Rt 112, where the line was short most of the time, and the ladies would always give me extra cables remotes and the best and newest boxes.

You see those people everywhere. I didn't really notice them when I went. In fact, I've seen worse on W. Fordham rd & Aqueduct ave. I didn't quite qet bluedog's comment making it seem as if Fordham is any better. Fordham is as ghetto as you can get.
