I am looking to buy semi-custom cabinets. I was thinking Kraftmaid or a similar type of brand. I am looking for recommendations for where to buy cabinets. I priced them at Home Depot and they came in around $19,000 and am sure I can save some money on this. I keep on reading that I should buy with a % "off list" but do not know where to go in the New York city and surrounding areas.
Many thanks!
Try Consumer Kitchens, I have been to the showroom and they have great stuff, I just cant make up my mind. They also have a web site with all different brands of cabinetry.

Thanks. I tried Consumer Kitchens and they seemed to be in the HD ballpark. Any other suggestions?
There are Dozens of Kitchen cabinet manufacturers in this country. I just had my kitchen done and could not be happier with my choice. I choose Fabuwood. There are a ton of distributors around. I would not recommend the distributor I got them from. They were Yonkers Cabinets. Their customer service was awful....
www.fabuwood.com....you can contact them and they can put you in contact with a local distributor
Plus, much cheaper than Kraft Maid and what is offered at Home Depot. Do NOT go to big box stores for cabinets...they are a major rip-off. plenty of good quality manufacturers out there.
I have no talent when it comes to design so I would try Home Depot and Lowe's and buy whatever looked nice and didn't bust the budget.
I think I many soon have to do just that because this 1974 stuff I have isn't much to look at, actually ugly, and was cheap even back then.
Perhaps first I'll try paint?
I have heard there are refinishers who can do a nice cosmetic job on just the outside which HAS to be a lot cheaper.
