The city's response to the Dec 26th storm was not the norm. Bloomberg was caught with his pants down and there is an unconfirmed rumour that a wildcat strike was on.
I've lived in NYC, at least part time, since 2006 and have been through many bad storms where the streets were cleared within a couple hours. Even last year's big blizzards weren't that inconvenient.
Besides, wacky weather happens everywhere. There are mudslides, floods, windstorms and serious brushfires every year in idyllic Southern California, and severe thunderstorms and hurricanes in Florida. Every place has its hazards.

While i agree with you about this last snow storm, i still would rather be somewhere were the sun shines and i dont need a coat, hoodie, sweater, hat and gloves. i am so sick of dressing, and undressing...it gets really old fast.

You are so right. Not to mention the dry skin that comes along with it....oh boy, have I been suffering. I have to slather on moisturizer constantly, at the beginning of the winter my whole face was actually peeling, it was awful!
Get ready, more snow tomorrow!
And to those who said why did I come here, I have an elderly relative that I am looking after. I didn't come here for any other reason, had no desire to.

In two month's time you won't need to do that anymore.
(I came here because I wanted to be exposed to the most diverse people in the U.S., world class culture, art and music, and worldly people. I wasn't finding that, in nearly the same concentration, in the rest of Generica. The weather is just a small price to pay. Your mileage may vary.)
I don't like winters anywhere where it's cold and has snow. I still have an appreciation for NYC and I'm not through with the city yet but when I am I'm definitely moving to a warmer climate.
I think I suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and I don't like that there's less sunlight.
The thing is, when I think about NYC, I come to my own conclusion that we have a great spot on the globe! Specific examples: We don't have insects the size of dinner plates, as I imagine Venezuela, Brazil, etc to have. No typhoons like the Phillipines or Taiwan. Hardly any tornadoes like Oklahoma. For the longest time I've considered California to be more disaster-prone versus NYC, but nowadays it seems California's getting hit even harder with more and more events. Or it could be because news travels fast on the internet. I really can't think of "who else" has a great spot on the globe. Maybe Maryland. Virginia. Spain. Hmm, who else has few problems?
It's all relative. NY has, on average, 300 sunny/partly sunny days, which is a lot. You can have a couple of dreadful days but then two weeks of dry sunny weather.
If you lived in South-East Alaska for a few months, New York climate would seem like paradise.
Obviously the OP isn't a cold weather person. No reason to flame him/her. People like what they like. I personally hate the winter time, the days are shorter and you can't be outside because it is too cold...nevermind the wind chill and the dry skin/sinuses. Winter time anywhere just plain sucks.

i dont think their flaming her for the weather. Their flaming her for the title of the thread which is obviously untrue unless nyc is the most north place you have ever been to in the U.S
