Throughout the US history, Mexicans were widespread in the Sunbelt region. You would be very lucky to find one anywhere in the North East of the US. Now years later, the Mexican population in NYC is growing.

Does anyone have information on how the Mexican population grew in NYC? What got them to NYC in the first place?

Most Immigrant Mexicans in NYC are from Puebla, Mexico. I would guess that it's more word of mouth and family members and friends are moving from there here to establish themselves. The number is growing expontenially though. Every borough, Long Island, and NJ has a significant Mexican population. There is also a growing number of Mexican-Americans from other states mainly Texas and California. They're basically transplants, not immigrants.

Do a search for Mexicans in NYC and there is a long thread on this subject already.

Tons of Mexicans on Staten Island these days. They have strongholds in African-American communities like Port Richmond, Tompkinsville and Stapleton, as well as presences in every other corner of the borough where there's black and/or Hispanics. They're even scattered throughout some lily-white areas of the Island.

Ehh, bring 'em on. They don't bother me any.

Illegal Immigration, anyone? They pop out of nowhere overnight and cause all sorts of problems.

Now, now...don't single out Mexicans. One of the largest communities of illegal aliens in New York City happens to be the Poles. But why nitpick? There are more illegals here than you can shake a stick at.

On my way to a Yankees game last year I saw a group of all male Mexican looking teens on the 4 train last year trying to rock the skinny jeans and multi-colored designer sneakers look.

They stood out because of their short height and dark complexions.

Oh my how NYC has changed since I was a teenager.
