This whole hipster thing is mind blowing. I never heard about this until I moved here. Anyways. As other posters have said Williamsburg is pretty much ground zero. The whole hipster thing has become sort of a running joke in NYC so don't expect to be welcomed with open arms outside of the hipster circles. Me personally I could care less one way or the other.
They are just young people enjoying life. They are harmless and fun to behold.
Well being a "somewhat" young person I understand where you are coming from. From what I have gathered it seems the hate stems from 2 areas. One is that they are perceived as driving up rent and pushing out long time residents. The other is that a lot of their activities seem to be attention seeking with no real merit. They are also seem as pretentious which doesn't help. Me personally I can sort of relate to both demographics as I come from a working class background but work in a white collar job. That being said, I do not in any way, shape or form claim to be a New Yorker or claim to understand how the natives feel. Since I am not from here I could never have a clue in that regard. Being from another large transplant area, Atlanta, I do feel resent sometimes by all of the transplants from the NE and other areas who move there only to insult it. So in that regard I can somewhat understand someone invading your territory and not respecting it although I know it is not really the same thing as the hipster invasion of NYC.

Well, that's a big chunk of it (the underlined part)
I'd say Bushwick (having succeeded WB as the place where hipsters actually *live*), Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Red Hook, and the parts of Bed-Stuy close to Williamsburg.
fort greene = hipsters who actually work to pay rent
though the young stroller moms are pushing everyone down toward red hook/bedstuy
The Slope and "BoCoCa" () is ground zero for the hipster's mortal enemy: the waspy, yuppie stroller brigade.
