I remember in the 1980s, squeegee men are all over Manhattan. It was so annoying and many drivers just pay them to go away. Things changed since Rudy G became mayor and started kicking their butts.
Is there any squeegee man still performing his act on NYC streets? Just curious.
I do not know if any of the ones from back in the days are still around.
However there may be a few transplant hipsters walking around with a squeegee for the sole purpose of being ironic and attracting attention towards themselves.

They have made something of a comeback over the last few years but nothing like they were back in the bad old days. I seem to remember some kind of court case over the NYPD trampling on civil rights resulting in the NYPD pulling back if the the squeegee is not being intimidating to drivers or obstructing traffic.

They have new jobs selling candy and begging for money for homeless organizations on the subways. It's a better gig. Everytime I'm on the subway I see these men make 3 to 4 dollars per stop. Being a squeegee man required too much hustle and being subjected to the elements.
The intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Bedford Avenue always has a lot of them back in the 1980s. Mostly likely because there's a homeless shelter on the corner. My father always used to curse them out lol.
