OP, don't believe alot of the posters here. They are Bronx apologists. I come with facts.
The South Bronx has the highest assault and robbery rates in NYC. In terms of violent crime rate, only Brownsville was worse last year, and not by much. Even taken by itself, some Bronx precincts, if they were cities, would be top 10 in the entire US in robberies/assaults.

hahaha, if thats the case everyone in those precincts will be victims of crimes in one way shape or form. But yes South Bronx does have high robbery and assaults. Sadly Bronx some precincts dont have a population above 100,000 if anything tehy are probably more dangerous then most American townships in robberies or assaults.

Look up a Hunts Point post I made in a thread a couple of months ago. The 41st precinct had 13.3 violent crime rate, while the 75th was "only"at 8.2. The 41st precinct would be a high crime area anywhere in the US. The only thing it lags behind is in homicide, which gives it the appearance of being safer.
The Bronx as a whole is not terribly bad, and it has alot of nice areas. But relative to NYC, the South Bronx is among the most dangerous any way you cut it.

It sounds like you have a greater fear of muggings and robberies over murder. Then again being a victim and living with physical and mental scars takes toll on the victim compared to just being plain old dead with a make shift memorial.
In other news last week I was our partying in the les. Took the 4 train back to mott haven. I noticed a few of these brave white hipsterish folks come off 138 and gc and walk home to thier lofts. I was kind of shocked. They walk in packs though.
I was born and raised in Mott Haven and continue to live there. But I work in Manhattan and sometimes find myself walking from the 6 train to my apartment (which is in the projects) as late as midnight. Thankfully (knock on wood) I've never been attacked, robbed, or even looked at funny. A female walking by herself at night can be seen as an easy target anywhere. So I try to walk as quickly as I can while being extremely vigilant and I think that helps. No matter where you live it's important to be aware of your surroundings and use common sense. Also, never walk like a victim. Walk with authority.
South Bronx is not too bad now and I even didn't feel threatened back in the 70's, too. If I had no problem with that dreary neighborhood during its worst time, then you shouldn't have that much problem today. Hey, just outside LA Dodger's stadium is way more threatening than S. Bronx ever was since you're likely get you but kicked for no reason at all in Dodger's Stadium.

And how is living in the Bronx? Is it fun?
