The city of new york has kept wal mart out of its boundaries for awhile and for good reason

Its really not about the economic or politics. Its about the integrity and culture of this city. Walmart is a monopoly that strives on dominating business wherever its located. It wont work in nyc

People are not out here protesting walmart for nothing.lets be serious
IMO, Wal Mart would be an upgrade for the alleged culture of East NY.

Most NYers will ever see ENY in their lifetime, so nobody cares. And given the demographics of East New York, I'm pretty sure the vast majority of East NY residents support Wal Mart rather than shopping at the overpriced/diseased/dumpy local ENY bodegas.

Wal Mart in another part of the borough (perhaps Red Hook, Brooklyn) would be fine too, so as long as they promise to keep with their urban concept for New York City stores:

And not trailer trash like:

Sometime in the 1990's Wal-mart converted all of their superstores to megastores complete with supermarkets. Last time I went back 3 of the supermarket chains (Albertsons, Vons and Lucky) all closed up shop and yielded to the Wal-mart juggernaut. Now these people have less of a selection of groceries, reduced quality and are only supporting pissed off part time poverty workers.

This is what you want to bring to NY? With all the wonderful selection we have here wioth great sales and double coupons and you want to bring in backwater mart?
However if it's going somewhere that's in pretty bad shot up shape I don't see the problem. I mean I'd rather shop at a Walmart Supercenter than a C-Town.

It's not like they're placing it somewhere with Mom & Pop stores lining the streets and everyone has a pie cooling off on their windowsill. East New York is a whole different animal.

Thank you....for those that are opposing Wal-Mart in ENY, when's the last time any of you even been to East New York? They're proposing to build it in an area where there is literally nothing except grassy fields. There isn't even a reputable supermarket such as Pathmark, Shop Rite or Stop n Shop in East New York.

Default Beadchhead point yet again

So is ENY going to be the last Wal-Mart ever built in NY? It will be the first of many with ENY only being the beachhead store used to gain access to the market. They will not be done untill every Pathmark, Stop and Shop, Shop Rite and C-Town is closed. It happened in Las Vegas and many other cities before; the model is well developed. When they are done we will be eating frozen chicken nuggets with frozen pizza's and washing it down with mountain dew like they do in the backwaters of America. We don't do that here, we don't eat like that and we don't need their backwater Chinese sweatshop dump store here.

One of the main reasons ENY is even being considered as a site to build a Wal-Mart is because they have the vacant land to do so. You're not familiar with the area. And like I said before, ENY does not even have a Pathmark or Shop Rite to compete with Walmart. The supermarket in Starrett City will hold strong because its directly in the middle of Starrett City, making it easily accesible via walking from many points in the neighborhood. But when you look at East New York as a whole (and its a very large neighborhood in land area), there's really no competition to begin with. This is why Wal-Mart is a viable option. East New York also isnt known for its fine cuisine, unless you consider Crown Fried Chicken or boneless spare rib tips and pork fried rice world class dining. It's a ghetto ladies and gentlemen. Unless you want to bring a Whole Foods there. Fresh meat and produce that the residents can't afford sounds good to me, what about you?

In Los Wages i never shoped for food when i was single i at all my meals at the local buffets at the casinos for it was cheaper than buying food at the store when i was off for the weekend or i was haveing guest over for the night and then i would go to the store to shop for something for us to eat there ...

If you check my fridge in the house in Vegas it had only milk and cereal and bread and lunch meat with chesse slices along with mayo and mustard and ketchup and steak sauce and soda pops or instast coffee powder in it and maybe a steak for the grill and that was it in the fridge and that was it along with snacks in the cabinet for muching on when watching tv ...

Most of the single guys i knew there we had not alot of food in the house because of eatting out all the time there for it was alot cheaper to do that instead of cooking at the house .. ..

I could eat out for less than $4.oo a meal for breakfast and lunch was free at work and dinner was left over from the lunch that the cook would save for me and leave in the fridge for me to take home and mircowave it and

lol exactly my point. The pre-existing conditions of east new york has nothing to do with anything. You think walmart is trying this hard just to settle on east new york.smh. If anything their looking for a weak spot to set up shop first. Than eventually they will go to locations that have pathmarks ,c-towns and whatever else

LOL at the wal-mart machine brainwashing fellow new yorkers. I went to college in a region that walmart dominated, for five years. I know how they get done

Walmart is the biggest chain corp in the world. These mfers are trying to take over china. lol. What makes you think they're going to settle with ENY in New york city. Come on

Is Walmart totally banned from NYC or something? I don't see ENY being the stepping stone for a NYC domination. They can do what they're doing now (fighting) if they see they're trying to expand somewhere that doesn't need one, I mean how many times have they been blocked so far? Walmart isn't needed in Manhattan but ENY certainly could use one, it might even spark some development.

Lol nobody's brainwashed, I live in an area (SE Queens) where Walmart is essentially the same as Target, just different colors. It didn't blow businesses out of the water either, I remember when it used to be a Kmart (and the nearby Target was a Caldore). Green Acres Mall actually improved drastically in recent years despite the presence of BJ's, Walmart, & Target.

There was an article in the Daily News not long ago about Wal-Mart and New York. As good as it can be for people's pockets, it will kill way too many small businesses. Wal Mart doesn't need a store in NYC, it's not like they need the money to absolutely open one there anyway.
