I love White Castle but only eat it every once in a while.
Omg. I forgot about white castle.
Everytime I go to the city I always go to the one on metropolitan ave in Brooklyn. I think they closed it though..
They dont have any white castles up here.
The most popular just by pure amount of stores would be McDonalds and of course, Dunkin' Donuts.
I think Popeyes Fried Chicken all in all is pretty high up there too on their sheer amount in NYC vs. small disparity in other parts of the country. I'd imagine per cap it has one of the highest concentrations per any US city, vs. something like Taco Bell which is SURPRISINGLY low numbers here.
My own favorite Fast Food chain does not exist in the State of New York.
I know from some personal acquaintances, NYC's big gov't and high retail spaces make it VERY unprofitable or pleasant to have a franchise location here despite there being a draw for these kinds of foods. It's not just that people prefer these eclectic ethnic eateries. From a business perspective it's much more profitable and less red tape to open in Nassau, Bergen, or Westchester.
Actually many towns and cities in Westchester limit the amount fast food locations. Some towns in Suffolk and Westchester like the town of East Hampton prohibts them period.

East Hampton prohibits major franchises...when it comes to ralph lauren forget it..They give any designer a space in a heartbeat
Okay, if no true NYers eat fast food, why are they EVERYWHERE? If I think about the errands I ran around Manhattan last week, I can think of a McDonald's within about two blocks of each location. And I was not near any projects.
I do agree that I don't get why fast food chains are so popular when I can get great cheap food from halal carts and ethnic restaurants. But to say that fast food is only for tourists or poor people is a joke.
How does Dominos continue to exist? That is the greatest NY chain mystery to me.

Gotta cruise down to the one on 59 in Nanuet...I can do it from Newburgh rather quickly
It's mind blowing to me that places like Domino's, Pizza Hut, and Papa John's exist in the NYC market. Really?? If you were in the mood to get a pie for your family, or to have some friends over, why in the world would you choose that pre-made garbage over the local pizzeria? In most cases it's the same price. Mind blowing, I tell you.
