So ive finally gathered the courage and the funds to start my pistol permit process but I have some questions and concerns. First off, I have a clean record, no arrest, nothing medical, Second I dont have work history in NYC or a drivers license (have a standard license) and Im a full time college student living in public housing. Been living here in NYC all my life. Just wanted to know if the any of this can be used agianst me during the process.
Also about gun shops. Anyone have experience dealing with NYC gun shops? How are they and whats their selection like?
im lost on the part about not having a drivers licence but having a standard license? do you have a ny id card? do you have a drivers license from another state?
if you have a clean record you will get it.. i have yet to find anyone i know who was truthful about their record and was denied .
you need to prove full time residency in nyc......
you will most likely get screwed if you have another license in another state and have a ny id card. thats not allowed.
they really only go by your record and any mental health issues, restraining orders outstanding or divorce issues.

I have a NYC non drivers license, Someone told me they may have ground for deniel if you have a poor driving history or lack of work history. Just wanted some more opinions on it. I live in NYC have so all my life.
the plan is if nyc passes the bill to reduce the permits from i believe 340.00 bucks to under 100.00 nypd said they will take into consideration everything from a poor driving record to littering. as far i know and i dont keep up with it, the bill has not been passed. i just looked at the nypd site and its still the 340.00 bucks it always was.
up until now pretty much anyone with a clean record and none of the issues i listed in the thread above went through approved. generally those that were denied had blemishes on their record but as far as what they told their friends or family members as to why they were denied they just told them they were denied and so the friends or family think that nypd denied them because of race, creed or where they live but its really not so..
they really dropped the price from years ago. when we had the old target hunting permit you had to join a range ,only the range could submitt your paperwork. that was around 250.00, the finger printing was 75 and the permit i think was 250.00.. you had to buy a firearm within 30 days or your permit was void so it cost around 1,000 bucks . now they dropped the having to belong to a range requirement
if your still going thru the divorce process sometimes they will not approve you if they ask you in the interview. usually they ask about any restraining orders or if your going throgh a divorce.
... i guess they found that until things are resolved there may be to much hostility for gun ownership...
it hasnt been until this point but no one can answer that. your dealing with nypd . do they think there is a high likely hood your apartment will be robbed living in a housing project and the bad guys steal another gun? pehaps . but thats something we cant answer.
Think living in public housing will be an issue???
I was told that your Zip code might be a problem. IF you live in an high crime or low income niegborhood it gives the police reasonable grounds to deny you a permit.
