Chinatown Fair is closing in March. There is talk about them moving to Williamsburg but who knows if or when that will actually happen. Sad news.

Well we will just have to wait until March to see what happens then wont we?

I have not been there in over 10 years.

It is sad a lot of the places I used to go to regularly back in the days are all closing.

The NBA STORE closed earlier this month.

Why?

Their rent was too damn high.

They say they are going to open up again in another location soon so hopefully that is the case and they are not closing down forever.

If the NBA cant pay the rent then who can?

I have been shopping there since day 1 when they first opened back in 1998.
I am going to miss that place.

oh i thought it was a "tic-tac-toe" playing chicken (and the game was rigged to have the chicken win 99 percent of the time). i'm being serious.

edit: buahahahahhh! i was right! http://newyorkdailyphoto.blogspot.com/2009/08/blog-post.html (broken link) don't you just love google? anyway iirc, that chicken box would say 'sorry bird brain. you lose' (or something like that) when you lost to the chicken, which is not mentioned in this article. hilarious article. (i had no clue those chickens were shipped all the way from arkansas. too funny)

oh, washington bullet, is that you speaking at 0:40 in the video? the guy says 'back in the day' alot that's why i'm asking

When I went in there last summer the chicken, not surprisingly was gone. His booth was still there, but no chicken. I asked the coin guy about the chicken and he said hed be gone for a while - As an adult, looking at the size of that booth, I felt bad for the chicken.

I really hate to think CTF is going to close - in the same block a ways up Sweet n Tart restaurant closed - THAT was a surprise considering the food was good/hot/cheap, and a huge place that could accommodate the waves of tourists that got winded walking uphill for 2 minutes. I used to love to sit there and order bubble tea and taro cake and practice my Cantonese with the Chinese teens who thought my grammatical errors were hysterical - but still an awesome time - man, things don't stay the same

I'll search for it later, but there was a NYT article that mentioned the chicken: some woman felt sorry for him and bought him. He now lives a happy life upstate where he doesn't have to worry about electric shocks on his feet! (How else did you think he always won tic-tac-toe?)

well fom what i read, the tic tac toe chicken was taken to a massachusetts farm for rescue animals. as for the dancing chicken, i'll just haveto take your word for it that he/she lives on a similar farm but in upstate new york. i know nothing about the latter chicken's current whereabouts, but i did see it dance when i was young. i had no clue it was due to electric shocks.. not good.
