So he doesn't have the money to maintain basic city services like firehouses, sanitation, teachers, senior centers or community centers but he finds money for this waterfront project that will benefit the shipping industry and a small segment of native new yorkers. How many new yorkers want to go kayaking in the filthy green rivers that surround new york? Besides that arent our kids worth investing in? Education is not a agency where you can force the employees to do more with less. Out of those 5000 teachers you can't believe that they are all bad teachers or discipline problems. Thats what he'll make you believe though. With Bloomberg theres always his truth, then the real truth. They are seldom the same..... However if it's all about investing in infrastructure then he might as well lay off 10000 more teachers then mabye he can invest in those moving sidewalks from the jetsons so we can protect our poor feet and really move forward. Thank you bloomberg

Sure they are, thats why we already spend more on our kids per capita than almost any other state in the nation.

I agree. Who needs teachers when we can have a park. yeah, who needs firemen when we can have another park........

oh yeah, I really see the logic in this.

We have no money to fund our teachers and firemen, yet we have money to plant trees.

The choice isn't teachers vs parks, or fire depts vs parks. This money was budgeted for and not coming out of education or public safety. The problems in education and municipal employment have nothing to do with investing in other parts of the city. If we had 10 billion surplus, we still need to fix our education and municipal employment problems...the surplus masks the problems while the deficit exacerbates them.

We still need to invest in this city and lay the groundwork for our future, and those that have you believe we should maintain the abysmal, inefficient and bureaucratic education system instead of investing in our city will put NYC and its residents in a worst position, not better.

Lets see if they can do better than they did with the Battery Park ferry terminal. Its cost to complete was triple the original budget.

same thing as city time, 70 million it was supposed to cost, now it's around 800 million. Or how about the supposed upgrade in the 911 system called UCT, another disaster!

Sobro it's amazing you dont ever talk about the REAL waste!

How about housing for the homeless so that we can remove possible to probable disease carriers from the subways?
