Okay I know Manhattan isn't cheap compared to the rest of the country, but what I mean is where is the cheapest place (in Manhattan standards) to live in Manhattan?

Besides China Town....don't think I could really live there. I come from a pretty rough city, so I don't need luxury.

Thanks

Inwood/ Washington Heights is probably where you'd find the cheapest housing in Manhattan, but you'd be better off looking in Astoria or Long Island City in Queens- safer neighborhoods and much closer to midtown/ Downtown Manhattan....it's not as if an apartment in Inwood really carries the Manhattan "cache" anyway.

For cheapest neighborhoods under 96th Street, Chinatown, Lower East Side/ Alphabet City, and Midtown West are the least expensive areas.

It's still possible to find 2bed apartments in Inwood for under $1300 but, most will be East of Broadway on Post Ave, Sherman Ave and Nagle Ave, which are some of the worst blocks in the whole 5 borough of New York City. If you're lucky enough to find something West of Broadway, take it.

If you have to ask about price in Manhattan you are better off going to another borough. Amen!

Need to move back to New York City (Manhattan Midtown West area). What is the cheapest place to live at the price range of no more than $900 per month.

Default Na

What else do you need to know? I am just looking forward to moving back to Manhattan. I lived there from 1979 to 2004.

Thank you.
Michael

What people are trying to tell you is that you cannot rent your own apartment in Manhattan for $900. You might as well have said $100. It is an impossibility.

You can't rent one in Brooklyn, either. Maybe the Bronx or a very distant part of Queens.

You can find apartments around $900 out here in Bayonne, NJ. Right now I am paying $925 for a huge two bedroom in Bayonne with a three train, 45 minute commute into the city.

If you are hoping to find that in Manhattan, you are definitely dreaming, the most you will find is a shared one bedroom or studio where you split the rent with someone and that might be around $900, but it is gonna be up in Washington Heights. I have a friend doing that now in Washington Heights, so that is doable.
