Not impossible, I live in a 3 level, 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath with washer dryer and a small yard in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (1 stop to Manhattan) for $1800 including all utilities.

Check out Greenpoint, Crown Heights (but go there in person, some areas great, some sketchy), Prospect Park and other parts of Brooklyn; Astoria(Queens); depending on where you are working (and how long of a commute you want or can stand) Inwood/WA Heights has some nice areas and apartments and definitely in that price range. Lower East Side maybe, other possibilities all over the city (upper East and West sides, midtown, etc)...you just have to be willing to do the leg work.

Actually, it shouldn't be too hard to find something. Check out Astoria (Queens), the Upper East Side (East 90's around 1st Ave), the East Village/ Alphabet City. As long as OP is ok with 2 beds/ 1 bath, s/he should find something.
