There are a couple of condo buildings in my section of Pelham Parkway where apartments are selling for around $200,000. One bedrooms usually a little below…like around $190,000 and 2 bedrooms around $215,000 to $225,000. The addresses are 610 Waring Ave and 2385 Barker Ave.They were selling in the 150's to 170's or so during the recession but have started to move up fast in the last year, especially in the last 6 months.
At 875 sq ft this was probably a 1 br with a small dining room that they turned into a 2 br. Real 2br's with 2 baths in that building are around 1,100 sq ft. It's on a nice quiet block close to subway ,shopping, restaurants and The Zoo and Botanical Garden and across the street from an elementary school: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.8600...8i6656!6m1!1e1

Awesome stuff! I was also curious about possibilities outside the Bronx (for variety's sake). Anyone know of any?
Staten Island, plus in Queens you have Far Rockaway, Jamaica, Corona and Howard Beach. I don't know of any of these complexes personally, just saw them listed when you search for condos.
What's the point of buying in these far flung places?
Might as well move to LI or up by Yonkers/Westchester.
I agree. Just trying to show OP what's available. That last one I happened upon is in an area of Corona that is 15 minute walk to the train. Condos were selling in that building at $285K in 2007, but by 2010 and 2011 people were dumping them for $160K. Now I see a few listed for $199K. Not a great investment. And Not a place I'd want to live.

The part where she listed the condos by Guy Brewer, yes it is that bad. However not all of the Jamaica area is bad. Around Jamaica Estates is nice and Briarwood is pretty good as well. The downside is the commute unless you work in midtown and can take the LIRR.

Basically, as far as I can tell, a sub-$200K condo (not coop) is going to have some sort of major issue, like either being in a bad area, or an inaccessible area.
I actually think the Corona condo might not be that bad, because Corona is ok-ish and a 15 minute walk to the train isn't horrendous (just not great). However, I think the building was sold as overpriced condos to investors in 2007, and probably then filled with renters. Since Corona is filled with recent immigrants and some housing looks to be over-packed, I would assume this could be a big problem with this place.
To me it just isn't a pleasant enough area to live. If I have $200K to spend, I would buy a nice coop somewhere instead of a crappy condo in a crappy-ish area.

I noticed your listings were mostly 2-3 bedrooms. I'd be more interested in just a studio condo. Any idea how much of a difference that would make?
