Hey everyone,
I'm a former New Yorker from Queens that was in NJ for few years for job and now I'm about to come back. Except this time, job opportunity is in DUMBO so I have no idea where to begin looking for an apartment in what town let alone whether to start looking in Brooklyn or in city right across the bridge. I'd greatly appreciate any tips and pointers to get me started. I'm completely clueless about Brooklyn.

Max rent: $2,000 (not including any util)
Looking for 1 bed preferably but a large studio or loft is fine
Prefer short distance to work in form of subway, walking, or biking.

Thanks for your help!

Fort Greene and beorum hill are very close. Prospect Heights and Park Slope are nice looking brownstone neighborhoods and a bit pricey but I think you should be able to find a place under $2000.

Kensington is further but much cheaper. Subway commute might be a bit 25-30 minutes.

Ahhhhhh, why not live in DUMBO?

Walk to work, go home for lunch and socialize in one neighborhood. DUMBO has many old converted loft buildings, as well as newer and newly built buildings and towers.

The area is not cheap, but I'd exhaust that option first. The best $2K might get may be a studio/studio loft, but a roommate situation might be most economical.

Financial District, you should be able to afford a studio in an older elevator building. Only one or two stops from DUMBO.
