I'm going to be traveling from NYC to a vacation home on Nantucket (MA) island this spring/summer and am interested in figuring out the most cost-effective, fastest, method of traveling. I see that a few of the airlines have direct flights from JFK->ACK for around $300 roundtrip. I was just wondering what method other New Yorkers who travel to Nantucket during this time of year use. Appreciate any responses. thanks.
Though not the fastest, the only other option is to drive to the mass/cape and take a ferry. I've done this option with Martha's Vineyard.
You'll have to book way in advance if you want to take a car. Do a google search and find out, as there are some ports closer (New Bedford) than points in the cape, such as Wood Hole.
I think you will find that the fastest and most cost effective way is to fly, unless you place no value on your time.
$300.00 round trip to get to a place that would take you 7 or 8 hours each way is a bargain.
I have driven to Hyannis several times then taken the ferry which in total is time consuming. Once you are on Nantucket you can just rent a bike at worst...or just walk. It is my favorite island of the three.
