relocate Forest hills is Broker firm Kraham trustworthy (Dix, Florida: sales, apartment)

HI,
In NYC is it normal to make out the bank check to the sales and leasing company? Just relocating to NY, found an apartment via Kraham sales and leasing with Richard Dix in Forest Hills. They want me to make one check out when I sign the lease. In Florida I would make the check out to the management company but they want me to make it out to Kraham to move into 68-37 Yellowstone blvd, James Manor in Forest hills. Then he tells me the management company will give me back the commission in a free month and 1/2 rent.


How do I find out if the company is honorable.

They are either great or they are really sleazy and have flooded Yelp with positive reviews written by themselves.
