Precisely right-- and you won't be alone. I have no plans to join panic-stricken hordes attempting to reach the shores of New Jersey. (Let's be honest: if we're on the verge of an apocalypse, you probably wouldn't be able to get out of the city anyway. And you're not going to be any safer in Jersey--assuming you make it there alive--than you are right here.)

And henry, stop being vague. Whatever it is you've got in your magic bag of tricks, you can tell the rest of us. It's apparently something so special, nobody else here has one like it, so it shouldn't matter whether you reveal your wonderful secret or not.

This thread is still going on I see.

The way I see it, there are only 2 levels of disaster you are going to deal with in NYC.

1) Mild or Major inconveniences (Electrical Grid goes down, terrorist attack, disease outbreak)

OR

2) The fall of human society as we know it.

In either scenario the worst thing you can do is to run out in the streets filled with paniced people and attempt to breast stroke across the Hudson. Have extra non perishable food in your apartment, fill your bathtub and sinks with water, have a first aid kit, flashlight, battery operated radio, and a deck of cards. THEN STAY PUT.

Staying put is a good plan for both scenarios above.

In situation 1, you are staying out of the street allowing emergency crews easy access to citizens who need them, and preventing your from becoming a victim of looters or mobs. Not to mention, some people actually might NEED to evacuate and you will not be preventing a calm and orderly evactuation by blocking streets with your magic backpack containing the arc of the covenant.

In Situation 2 you are a dead duck no matter what, so you might as well die in the comfort of your own home surrounded by the people you love. If society falls, it doesn't matter how well you plan, prepare, or hoard. You are not going to be able to collect or have enough to last you the rest of your truncated life. And that is assuming you can hold onto your hoard when roaming bands of hungry desperate people come calling.

In Texas we have a lot of weird seperatists who speak in vague and strange terms like the OP does. They insist if society falls they will be sitting pretty and life will basically not change for them. But then they cry their eyes out when NASCAR gets preempted.

If society falls, you are either a farmer or a scavenger. No matter how much you fit into a book bag, you become one of those things. No amount of planning changes that.

Yes i learned to think in a diff way than you and no i'm not a sepeatist and i do belive in the long run i going to be me takeing care of me not anyone else and those who think that there going to get help from a government agency after watching how they handle Katrina from a first hand experience on the gulf coast of Mississippi where i lived at the time ..

Watching the socalled rescue personal dureing the aftermath and they did not have there S--- togerther any shape or form to help the people that need help there on the coast and that scared the heck out of me ..When i watch them down there have no clue or how to get help to some of the people around the area i was in dureing katrina

Yes i had enough supplies in the house that i rented to last or about 30 days before i need to go out and right before we lost power i was cooking up all the meat in the freezer on the grill to have in the cooler to eat dureing the first week then i was going to the camping and mre i have in the food supplies ..

the only time i left the house was to check on the casino and report back to the owners group and told them that they where going to be need to fill out the insurance forms on the place after that i was told to make my way to memphis when i could and there will be tickets and a hotel room waiting for me there when i got into town ....

That was the lesson i learned from Katrina that the you have to take care of you because no else i going to see to your safety and feed you ..So that why i asked those question ..

What he said ^^^ The OP sounds like a loon. I'm assuming he doesn't carry any kind of a grammar book in his fanny pack...

Perfect post! (and funny!) My thoughts exactly. I prepare for #1.

I am not making fun of the OP, just confused as to what he thinks he has prepared for. I know many people that are convinced they can chug along without society, and I just don't believe that to be true.

I agree with you completely, Jay. How is anyone supposed to prepare for the unknown? You can't be ready for everything, all the time. The best you can do is deal with whatever happens, when (or if) it happens...assuming, of course, that you're still alive afterward.
