For the unenlightened, Tudor City is a small district in East Midtown right across from the UN (btwn 1st and 2nd avenue and btwn E 40th and E 43rd). I'm looking to rent a studio apartment in one of the twelve towers, while raking in about $40,000 (minus expenses). Do you think this is possible?

You'd do better looking for a condo to rent. Co-ops rarely let their shareholders rent out their apartments, and if they do, it's for a very limited time with a LOT of oversight by the board. Tudor City is a co-op.

I looked on the internet, and there ARE rentals there. Just be careful with renting out a co-op apartment. If you get out of line at ALL they can get rid of you very quickly!

I looked at studios there one time. They are old-school studios with tiny rooms and the most minimal of kitchen areas - dorm fridge and two burner stove. Some had Murphy beds. That small. Ok if you're seriously on a budget and not concerned about square footage I suppose. Plus the neighborhood's not too shabby of course. There's an upscale bike shop in one of the buildings if you're into that sort of thing. The studios I've seen online are ~1800 a month so I don't know much luck you're going to have getting a lease on $40,000/yr.

Do you mean that you currently own/rent an apartment and want to sublet it? At one point a long time ago, I was curious about rentals in Tudor City, and it struck me as being at the high end of moderately affordable. If that remains the same, then, no, $40,000 would not be likely.

You know this thread is 8 years old and rentals in Tudor City at that time would allow for something close to $40K per year.
