Alright, so I finally got a job in NYC after about 2 years of working upstate. It pays $60,000 and is located right next to Bryant Park. I'm hoping for some advice and recommendations on places to live based on my wants.

This is what I'm looking for..
-Close to bars and cafes
-I like to party..definitely at least on weekends.
-People my age
-Rather have at least a roommate for at least some socializing and keeping costs down. I have lived with a roommate since college at age 17 and for the last 2 years while working so I'm used to it.
-Not too long of a commute to work
-A cool and fun neighborhood. I've been living upstate in a boring town and I can't stand being bored.
-I rather Manhattan, but I'd be open to Brooklyn or Queens.

I was thinking either Murray Hill or East Village after reading this forum for a while. I know East Village is very expensive but with a roommate or 2 I should be fine. What do you guys think?

I'm from Long Island so I've been to NYC a ton of times but don't know too much of the areas. I went to East Village a month ago to bar hop and I think it's exactly what I'm looking for.

My plan is to keep my car parked at my parents house so when I go there I can use it. I think I pay 100 a month for insurance but if it ends up being a waste I'll just sell it.

Oh, I have $30,000 in the bank from working the last 2 years, so I wouldn't mind paying a broker's fee if need be to get a better place.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think the East Village would be your best bet...not only is it a neighborhood you like, but it's actually pretty convenient to Bryant Park. On the F or the V, it's about 20 min tops. You could get on at Second Avenue (the station is at 2nd and Houston).
