I have been watching Donald Trump making a fool out of himself on television over the so-called 'birther issue' and wondered how New Yorkers felt about him. I know he is an icon of the city, but do you feel a positive or negative one? Would you be happy if he just left NYC and never returned?

I would be happy if Donald Trump left NYC for good and never went back. I don't like him because he always wants to build super condo towers which destroy the neighborhoods of the place, like Trump Tower Soho, and destroy historical buildings for business. It also raises the price of rent and makes a place more exclusive and NYC could use less of that. If he wants to leave he should go to some farm town in the middle of nowhere and build a huge bunch of skyscrapers and mega condos there, infact make a whole new city at least he would be doing good.

He is more like an embarrassment than an icon and it's been that way since forever. The birther bs is just the latest manifestation.
I hate the fact that a huge segment of the US population thinks he is a "typical" NY'er.

I saw him on TV a few days ago bragging about he is "a self made billionaire".Self made? Didn't he take over a family real estate empire started by his father and uncle ?

Yes,I wish he would just go away.He is despicable.

Money certainly hasn't bought Trump class. I'd be embarrassed if I lived in a building with his name on it.

I don't know whether or not he inherited the family business, but how are you a "self-made" billionaire when you've taken advantage of bankruptcy protection on multiple occasions!!! What a clown.

I don't like him and I didn't like him long before he started with the birther nonsense. But as far as I can tell, Donald Trump has never stopped me or anyone I know from doing anything, so I couldn't care less where he lives.

Oh, and regarding your question, yes, he did. He did expand it pretty heavily, though - he business he inherited was much, much smaller than the one he wound up with, so it's not like he didn't do anything. Still, it's a bit of a stretch to say he's a "self-made" billionaire when he went into the family business.

Also, he is not exactly the savviest businessman. He's been much more adept at promoting Donald Trump than actually running his businesses.

Why do you want to get our hopes up? He may tease us with the idea of leaving, but he'll be back...just like a bad cold you can't shake.

Well, there are exactly two space shuttle flights left. I'd be happier if he left the planet and never came back.

But then, there is always the chance that he might be picked up by some alien civilization and taken as an example of life on our planet...
