Ozone Park in general is not that bad, for the area of Queens its in. The neighborhoods around especially Richmond Hill and South Ozone Park are going downhill. However Southwest Queens is still way better than the areas of Brooklyn it borders. Maybe the decline is a result of spill over from Cypress Hills, New Lots, and City Line.

If you have been catching up with the news about "murders rising in southeast" queens you should probably know what I am talking about.

Liberty ave is crowded and near the train so at night it may seem safer but venture out far and it may not be that safe anymore.

As for average rating, I believe it is still below average, gangs, congestion, noise, etc

It may not be as bad as a lot of other inner-city neighboorhoods but its quite scary driving at night when you see people around and quiet. Also a lot of people go to brooklyn and pass through neighboorhoods like those.

You really need to take a cab if you are coming home late night , since the area is dangerous , companies usually do that for employees who work late evenings. Now there are plenty of people who live in those areas especially immigrants who have built up there homes and made themselves a decent living even professionals working in banks, offices, insurance, real estate, etc

However, the area is not what you would call an average, safe, decent, neighboorhood . Also do not forget illegal apartments dwell frequently.

I live in RIchmond Hill, and I've asked many people around about how the neighborhood used to be. It used to be very much like Glendale. Mostly White, Low Crime, Middle Class, and Active Community. Now, the community doesn't give a rip, except the church, crime is on the rise, the immigrant population has doubled, and we now have mostly Lower Middle Class residents. I have mapped out crime on a map of Queens, including Glendale, Richmond Hill, Ozone Park, and Woodhaven. I found that most of the crimes occured in Ozone Park, and Woodhaven. I'm talking about violent crimes (Rape, Murder) and property crimes (Theft, Home Invasion). It's pretty sad that these neighborhoods have all suffered through a host of problems that can't be solved.

this post was incoherent. you say its below average in crime and then you say you wouldnt call it a safe and decent neighborhood.

Funny because the rent is so high in this area, so not worth it. We wish someone would've told us all this before we moved here. Ozone Park Sucks!!
Wow! Thanks for the info. I had no idea it was that bad. I was considering a co-op in Park Village.

Does anyone have any info about Park Village?

Before making a decision, consider that the person you're quoting had made only one post on this forum, and that was to bash the Ozone Park area. What s/he says may or may not be true -- but it sounds like someone who simply has an axe to grind .....

LOL. You're right! It's amazing how much of an impact this forum has. I have been looking for a house for more than 1 year. The area which I can afford.....people say to stay away from (Spring Valley, NY for example).

Funny, I still go to Ozone Park every now and then since I have friends there, it actually seems a tad nicer there now then it did in 2007-08. Then again, I don't live there anymore, only visit.
