Hey, I have experience at a nuclear power plant in the field of mechanical/civil design engineering (2 years experience). What I guess I'm looking for here is a list of companies which hire mechanical engineers in NYC. I'm not necessarily looking for a certain type of mechanical engineering job in particular, just somewhere to start shooting resumes or making calls (even though most resumes on the internet get shot into an abyss and calls go unreturned). I want to move to NYC first and foremost and worry about getting the "job of my dreams" second. Any info regarding engineering companies in NYC would be a big help to me and I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Engineering jobs in NYC is a little tough, but they are around. You're much more likely to find jobs in the surrounding areas(Northern NJ, Westchester/LI, Fairfield CT). Off the top of my head, i'd suggest looking into Emerson, Sikorski, any pharmaceutical companies looking for process engineering, Grumman stills has some stuff on the island. I've noticed a lot of small shops have been hiring, although its mostly contract work. If you're willing to get out of your comfort zone, lots of IT and financial companies will hire engineers as analysts or coders. With a Nuclear background, I'd look into the power companies, maybe National Grid, ConEd, state agencies like LIPA or NYPA. Do you have any background in compliance type stuff(NERC/FERC requirements)? Do you have a P.E.? Indian Point is maybe an hour or so away from NYC, maybe look into that.

Why not first focus on the big firms like PB, URS, Jacobs, etc., that have a presence in the city and have websites that might let you know if there are openings in the city? That's something you could start doing from where you are.
