Riverdale Public schools-how good/bad and how does zoning work? (renting, private schools)

Hi, I am new to the area. Thinking of renting in Riverdale but can't come up with anything substantial on public schools.
I have a 6 yr old and I need suggestions on good schools in the area.
What is the city demographic like? Do most people send there children to private schools?

go to greatschools.net and check out the schools rating that will give you a good idea whether the schools are well performing or not.

Greatschools shows no results for elementary public schools in riverdale!
Anyone from the area who can shed some light please?

I grew up in Riverdale, but that was a long time ago. I believe PS 24 and PS 81 are still very good schools. You may want to ask over on the NYC forum.

PS24 and PS81 still quite good but quite crowded. My daughter had 30 kids in her 5th grade class. Good teachers but overcrowded, short school day.

MS/HS 141 not great. HS and MS kids together. Kids locked in during lunch. Some kids do fine but not for everyone.
