Upper West Side: North of W. 59th St. and South of W. 110th St.
Inwood: North of the GWB
So called good spots are located in White Harlem, or Morningside Heights. This section is North of the UWS and south of Washington Heights. borders the Hudson River to around Fredrick Douglas Blvd.
The UWS touches Harlem at W. 110th St. and Central Park West.
W. 110th St.(Central Pk. West to the river) borders all of the UWS and White Harlem together.
Inwood doesn't start directly above the GWB, that is still Washington Heights.
The neighborhood, Hudson Heights, which is actually a part of Washignton Heights (north of the GWB, west of Broadway) is another nice neighborhood in northern Manhattan.
Here is a basic map of Manhattan (I am sure someone will find fault with it, but it looks basically ok to me at first glance). The area that is labeled Fort George would normally be considered to also be Washington Heights:

I'll second that. I live around 195th and Broadway, and it's still not quite Inwood, as that area really starts at Dyckman Street. It's generally a safe area, although I get some pretty good "street cred" from telling my kids (I'm a school teacher) that I live "in the Heights" .....
I just want to make it clear that Morningside Heights is a separate neighborhood from UWS and Harlem. People often make the mistake of putting it in with UWS or Harlem.
Over time thought Morningside Heights might spread out into Harlem, because Columbia U. will probably try to expand.

As for the better parts of Harlem being between 130 and 140, I partially agree, because there are some other nice stretches of Harlem spread out here and there that are not in that range. But Convent Avenue 130 to 140 is very very nice. Also Riverside is pretty nice 130 to 140.

Inwood starts at Dyckman Ave and goes north. It's pretty slummy east of Broadway, you would want to avoid that area. Low quality of life. From drug crime, trash, bad maintance, to loud music in the AM. There is a decent kept pocket west of Broadway up by Isham Park. It's up a hill so extra isolated.
As for the blocks W 130/140 in Harlem. They have become a lot like Washington Heights and less like Harlem these days. Dominican population has expanded far south on the west side. Low quality of life, poverty and the problems that come with, but the cheap rent usually lures in unsuspecting buyers. It depends on your tollerance level.

I have 2 agree with u my aunt stays 147th between amsterdam & convent and the neighborhoods is ok

Hudson Heights is sort of like Hamilton Heights. It's a recently made up name (by real estate people) for a small section within a neighborhood in order to differentiate it from the rest of the area.
