Parkborough..the oneupmanship and competition for that piece of cheese happens everywhere people are. It's always a competition..that is our nature and society. The difference here is the competition is the upper crust..and the vast majority cannot compete or succeed as a result..so they get angry at the city, try to convince themselves there is something wrong with NYers, and then move away.
If that delusion helps you swallow that big pill..that's great. And I wish everyone good luck..as there is a big world out there...why be somewhere you cannot succeed/don't like?

I haven't found it that way. I don't think I'm anything special but finding well paying professional work and first rental housing and then real estate was a breeze!
[quote=ParkBorough;19673752]Very good observations! Especially "oneupmanship, competing for "that piece of cheese," be it work, housing or opportunities while keeping a shovel in your shoe for whatever-next-best-thing"
I have to laugh at all of these people....all of these shallow idiots who just HAVE to live here NO MATTER WHAT!!!![/quote
Yeah I laugh at these fools myself everytime I go to work. Trying to be something their not. A partner at my firm lives in Huntington, LI. Nice area but wow is he paying for it. 15k-20k real estate taxes?!! And he doesn't even have central air in his house. Factor in the usual expenses of living in NY and commuting on the LIRR to Manhattan. Hmmm, I am better off and he's my boss!!!

Lulz!
By being a partner and a guy he isn't typical of this fake "dog eat dog" culture however. YOu know what's driving most of it? Cougar bull****, that's what!

When you read articles--particularly articles that contain polls--it's always the end of the world for New Yorkers. But for some strange reason, this never seems to happen.
i can probalby show you the same thing for southern Utah where i grew up and how many people are leaveing the area because of wanting something else in life other than home family & church in there life after college or high school ..
the city is going to be one of those place where the people come to at all ages groups to live and have there socalled big city lifestyle once in there life ..
Will it though? It's fine enough to want to move to NYC, but how many people can even afford it and stay as long term residents? That's this city's real problem, the cost of living is just far out of reach with the wages people earn here, and eventually there's going to be some sort of reaction to that.

Pull the various state government welfare/subsidy programs and it'll be the end.
Don't kid yourself. You'll have an exodus like no other.

Hmm...so you think an exodus of welfare/subsidy recipients is what the OP was talking about?
