NYC is really a great place to compete.

If you want to a just make a living, elsewhere is a better bet. There's really not middle class here.

I was looking at some houses it seems like prices are coming down, as far as house sales. I think NYC is gonna come back around. I found plenty of houses for under 200k.
But its funny cause in NC the rents are slowy becoming big city prices for country living. And so are their house sale prices.

Where, outside of Southeast Queens, did you find houses in NYC under $200K?

I wasn't really analyzing locations like that, but off the top of my head:
queens (Jamaica) bronx (clason, deremier,).

You can't buy a $200K house in NYC and have a nice life. Things will be far from easy if you have to live in a blighted and depressed neighborhood.

I agree. I grew up to middle class parents in Washington Heights. My parents were by no means "rich" but paid the bills, sent me to school, etc. There is a big misconception about living in the city, you dont need to live the fake lifestyle seen in TV. Now, if you want to live the life, it is out there and there are a million ways to spend your money.

I have always found the most annoying thing about New York to be the grocery store situation. Crappy selection and insane prices at most places. Now that Whole Foods has opened up in the city I do all of my shopping there; I def pay for it, but the selection is worth it in my opinion.
