Urgently need independent school place Sept 2011 in upper Manhattan or mid-Manhattan for creative bright 11 year old African American boy with ADHD. Any ideas? The public school that accepted him is low-performing with problems. He did well on city-wide tests. Because we had thought he would stay in the public school system he did not take ERB. Would prefer a school with diverse student body and small classes, respect for learning differences. Would also consider a public school with same characteristics.

You are dreaming. As a parent of an adult who suffered similar afflictions growing up and going through the public school system I can only recommend that you hire a lawyer (quite a few specialize in working with the Board of Ed.) and your own psychologist who will test, in order to get him a placed somewhere that has "respect" for learning differences. (whatever that means). Short of the threat of a lawsuit the B of E will not respond or consider placing your child in anything other then what warehouse, sorry I mean school, that they've offered.
