Most of Harlem is ghetto. East Harlem had the highest crime rate in the city last year. Central Harlem is always among the worst neighborhoods and West Harlem is bad aswell (especially above 125th).

Oh, that's kinda what I thought, but I keep seeing Harlem come up on this thread so I thought maybe it wasn't a bad area.
I used to live in lower east side Manhattan (10002) and it wasnt good. We had break ins and had to step over a bum who was too drunk to move when entering into our apartment, rats the size of cats, roaches and more roaches and more roaches than you can ever imagine. We also lived on a subway line and everytime a subway came through you can feel the apartment shake. We were actually jealous of the people who lived in the projects across the street! They had less roaches! But ya know what...i still loved my hometown. The food was the best!
We had a corporate apartment in Murray Hill. I liked that location as it was not too far from the 4,5,6, trains and Grand Central.
It also seemed more low key.

Live: Upper West Side or Upper East Side
Visit: Battery Park, Seaport, Times Square, Washington Heights
Eat: Just about anywhere, it's all good.
