Nyc is way behind. This shouldnt be a source of pride. We consider ourselves a major international city and lesser cities here in the US and abroad beat us to the punch with wifi.

Is that a 17 inch macbook pro that is used primarily by hipsters, transplants and other elitest? Why dont you get an ipad like everyone else in dumbo and enjoy the wifi of dumbo while looking cool and hip with the ipad.

But nothing beats my Inspiron B130 for picking up the free WiFi and my doggies poop under the Manhattan Bridge. Hands down more PC then those nasty blue bags.

Good catch. I'm not a tech person but it seems tech heads are discussing differences in the below article. As a non-tech person I don't know how to interpret what they're saying.

Quote:
Andrew Brent, a spokesman for [Mayor Bloomberg], said publicly-run Wi-Fi networks have proven expensive and "technically problematic."

"We’re encouraging area partnerships like the new one in Dumbo," he said, "and we are directly engaging private sector partners to expand Wi-Fi service in city parks and public spaces."
Quote:
"I'm very hopeful that this is the first of what will be a number of these types of projects," said Dana Spiegel, the executive director of NYCwireless.
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/02/nyregion/free-wi-fi-network-starting-for-dumbo-neighborhood.html?_r=3

Then there's this, from the same article, which of course I also don't understand lol. I also don't understand why they're discussing Manhattan when the article is about Brooklyn.

Quote:
At the end of June, one company, Towerstream, plans to introduce what it claims will be "the most robust and fastest portable Wi-Fi network" in Manhattan, though it will not technically be free: it hopes to sell access to cellphone service providers, who could then offer it to their customers. Wi-Fi generally provides a faster and stronger signal than cellphone networks.

OY!

So do all the people in DUMBO get free internet in their apartments, even on a great big DATED desktop tower?

I feel so backward not running around with pets and I-Pads under the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.

Wasn't there a time when only TROLLS lived under bridges?

Default don't move the Weiner to Dumbo

What about internet crackheads? Or kids with little self control? Some people are addicted to the internet - they eschew personal relationships- spending all day perusing the internet. For these people free wi-fi is something like A crackhead living in a neighborhood with corner mounted pez dispensers on every corner that distribute crack gratis.
