I started biking at Dyckman Street(the northern end) and went about 15 blocks but turned back due to forgetting to bring water and due to my lack of knowledge in how to fix a flat tire. i never went back but i plan to
during that limited time just about everyone i came across on the trail said hello and was friendly
you could park along Dyckman St west of Broadway. you walk to either Staff St, Payson Ave or Seaman Avenue to Riverside Dr. follow the signs to the H Hudson Pkwy, off to the right there will be sign pointing to the greenway. drag your bike up the stairs (not too many you won't sweat) and enter the greenway. you're home free
I don't know how where the greenway ends all the way down by Ground Zero. my guess is that perhaps it connects with the E side greenway around the battery
the street along Dyckman street is safe and a perfect place to enter/exit the greenway because you have bathrooms, a diner and places to get water, etc
