which is a better, more wholesome neighborhood?

Kingsbridge Terrace/Heath Avenue between W Kingsbridge Rd and W 231 street OR
Morris Ave/Creston Ave north of E Kingsbridge Rd to where they finish up by Minerva Pl nr Lehman?

I ask because I was just driving up KBT and was blasted with water by fire hydrants from neighborhood kids, and i noticed that the housing stock looked very similar to Morris/Creston N of Kingsbridge Rd(tenements, small houses, some elevator bldgs, a few Fedders) and lots of people hanging out

any difference?

They both suck, to put it nicely. Neither one is a "better" area, theyre both bad.

i strongly disagree with the above post. E Kingsbridge RD with minerva and grand concourse are good areas. Yea a lot of people do hang out outside but don't let that confuse you. That area is a good area trust me i live at 199 st and not far from kingsbridge so i know : )

Default i was always curious about 199th

street since most have agreed that 200th street is the borderline. but from what you say, it's not necessarily so

borderline to what? Honestly there is a ton of misinformation in these forums. NY in general is not dangerous. Sure there are robberies and murders, etc, but what state doesn't have this? NY is one of the lowest crime rate in the U.S. Honestly a lot of people are going to say an area is bad because they are trying to make their borough or neighborhood sound tough. There are a ton of white poeple living in east harlem which is consider a bad area in this forum. A ton of white people living in bed stuy, a few white people living in the south bronx (149 st), a few white people living corona queens. If it was sooo bad, then why they don't move? Bottom line is NY is fairly safe but "things" do happen just like in any other state.

Perfectly put. Some people on this forum must live in a permanent state of fear.

I don't consider, shootings, stabbings, mugging old ladies, shooting cabbies in the head for a measly 20 bucks or raping innocent women "tough". I grew up in a old school Irish American neighborhood where I had to worry about drunks coming back from pubs late at night picking a fight with me and trust me ive been in fights since I was 8 years old. I consider tough, when you can go out, get a job and raise your family. Fight like a man with your fists. I am a computer programmer. My father was an Construction Workerand Marine(thats tough)... Not a stupid hoodrat. also i grew up in New York in the 80s when it was 10x more dangerous then today. The "white people" you are talking about, are the types i do not associate with. The liberal, yuppie types. My people are the REAL new yorkers, blue collar, tough family people, that I know and grew up with. Dont get me confused with yuppies or hipsters, i might grab my bat!!! (JOKING!!!)

Also that part your talking about is near the VA Hospital and is CRAP, whoever raises their family there simply does not have the money to move out and if they did they wouldnt live there.

For a short period of time, I lived in on Kingsbridge and University. I loved the neighborhood. I never felt like I needed to watch my back and everyone was friendly. It terms of a more awesome neighborhood? IMO you can't really compare the two, all though I always felt E Kingsbridge to fit your description more (burst fire hydrants and a lot more people hanging out than W kingsbridge).

Kingsbridge Terrace/Heath Ave below 231st is crap. I live on KBT near Giles Place and I agree 110% with what CoolChris is saying. If I had to choose one of the two, I would say KBT is better (not by much) but the Creston Ave area is pretty bad, there is a lot of drug activity around there and alot of crime over the years has been committed in that neighborhood. The saving grace for KBT is the proximity to Riverdale but these buildings go thru seasons. One year you have great tenants, the next the tenants from hell. The building near me has tenants that blast spanish music. Every HOMEowner on the block has a problem but 311 is ineffective. I have noticed that my friends who complain of noise in Riverdale get immediate police attention but we don;t. I may possibly ask some newspapers to investigate the "double standards." Hell, I pay the same taxes!
