Hello,

Does anyone have info on those housing lotteries for affordable housing? What are the pros and cons? I am hesitant to send out an application because it looks like there is no easy way to contact these people? And who would I be dealing with if I make it to the interview process? The city, landlord or realtor?

I read somewhere they ask for many documents? Is this true? For how many years do you have to stay in the apartment if you get it or up to how many years?

Would love to hear the pros and cons of these apartment lotteries.

Thanks in advance.

I'm in the middle of dealing with a lottery and although it is frustrating dealing with the red tape, it will change our lives for the better if it all works out.

What's the harm in putting in a postcard when the listings come up? Just make sure you never pay anyone money until you are accepted into a program.

The process is SLAVERY and lots of GROVELLING but the potential rewards are great. There are several long threads on the board that go into the gory details.
I say GO FOR IT if you think you qualify.
But be prepared for a couple years' work...consider it a hobby and it's less painful.

(It took me 16 years to find my happy home.)
