I am just comparing it to what is available in other neighborhoods, such as the Upper West Side which has Fairway, Whole Foods, Food Emporium and Pioneer Super Market. On the Upper East Side they are more spread out. I have not lived over there for about 3 years, so maybe they've added some new ones.

Very residential (for Manhattan) and, as others have noted, one of the safer areas on a generally safe island. Welcome!

And let us not forget that it is POSSIBLE that someday we will have a spiffy new subway on Second Avenue. But PLEASE, don't hold your breath.

But along with the new subway will come the garbage transfer station.

Gosh,

That garbage transfer station will put a damper on a hot Summer night, they get smelly enough WITHOUT a garbage dump. In my heart of hearts I think it will NOT happen. There is a LOT of political clout on the UES.

True, but it did happen in SoHo with the garbage truck facility, despite some high profile opponents to the venture.

What may stall the transfer station on the UES is the pending bill in the assembly that would prohibit operation of such a facility in a certain proximity of a public housing project in a large city. However, since it was previously operational, and when closed was not dismantled, the fight will be difficult.
