Actually when I left NYC nearly 20 years ago I did the opposite. I did the things I enjoyed doing and knowing possibly I wouldn't get a chance to ever do again.

These items included:
Having a fresh baked bagel while it was still lightly crusty.
Having an Almond Horn that melted in your mouth.
Eating a sandwich at the Stage Deli.
Enjoying a 'regular coffee'.
Eating the Lobster Bowl at Randazzo's.
Eating at Kings Plaza Diner.

Riding a bicycle from Plumb Beach to Breezy Point.
Riding a bicycle from Bay Pkwy along the water past the VZ Bridge.
Riding a bicycle from Bay 1 to W 37 st in Brooklyn (on the boardwalk) and watching the sunrise.

Thats just a partial list. But who knew 16 years later I'd be a fly-in commuter for about a week every two months. But here's the odd thing: I fly in and out daily for about a week because, one I can no longer deal with NYC noise and two I can fly 400 miles (home) away faster then commuting to my brothers home on the Island.

so each time I come into NYC, I go and do what I miss and enjoyed while living there and not the things I never wished to do in the first place.

I want to leave NYC. Nothing in my bucket list, I have done everything I had wanted to do here already and if I didn't do it, I must not have been interested enough to do it, let alone think about it.
So my bucket list is emply.

Note that there are TWO types of interior passes, one that allows you access to the crown, and the standard access. The crown is where it's at, but reservations are often sold out for months. During the past several years, they've also done "night-time" visits to both Liberty Island and Ellis Island, though "night" is a relative term, since they usually end before 9, which is when it's finally getting dark in the summer months.

I've basically done it all.
My favorite two places would have to be The Bronx Zoo and Ellis Island

I did pretty much all that stuff...well I didn't actually go in the Cloisters Museum because it was later in the day I just wasn't in the mood, but I walked all over Fort Tryon Park. I'm not a big museum goer anyway but I've been to Liberty/Ellis Island before and the Met several times (and not just for cocktail hour on the roof mind you.)

My general suggestion is to make sure you've made a point to visit and have "a time" in each of the 5 Boroughs at some point, whatever it is. Manhattan isn't the edge of the earth, and you develop a much better appreciation for how dynamic and multi-dimensional New York City is once you've wandered around the rest of it.

So what places do you recommend for the others boroughs? I'm guilty of the Manhattanite isolation and know much less about the other areas. What do you suggest I check out?
