Do New York City people care spending extra $30 for data plan on cellular phone? I am from Homosassa, Florida and I started using google voice with wi fi on I Pod Touch. Cost Savings when not needing cellular.

Of course I do, switching from Verizon wireless to Metro PCS next week,
going from paying $65.90 a month with limited everything/no gps to paying
$50.00 a month for the 1st year, unlimited everything, after that it's $60.00 a month(Blackberry curve 8530) yes I know it's an older phone
but I don't care.
By the way my first bill with Verizon 2 yrs ago was over $100.00, and I wasn't aware of the caps on my data plan.
And I didn't even have a smartphone at that time, unreal!
As the one person said use Metro PCS and get here socalled Android plan for $40.oo to $60.oo dollar's for there 4g.LTE Unlimited Premuim Data plan that they offer with the phones..
Plus Cricket is also in NYC area for unlimited plan's
Yes. I have T-Mobile with a Nexus One. Having wireless coverage everywhere vs having coverage only in WiFi is a night and day difference, and I'm sure that when you eventually get a smartphone (and you will, since that's pretty much the only thing carriers are offering these days) you'll be wondering how on earth you got by without always accessible internet.
Google Maps/Navigation for Android will change your life. Don't go for Verizon though, they have the most expensive plans, and to be honest, in this city everyone will give you about equal coverage. Sprint is probably the worst though when it comes to indoor coverage.

I'd pay the $30/mon just so I wouldn't have to go through all that trouble.

You stupid Sprint has some of the best indoor coverage, where I work I get service in the elevator shaft and in the basment. But watchout for Sprint its getting pricey btm. I have 4 phones on my account. I have one dumbphone and three 4g wimax phones, all together plus taxes and fees is 250 dollars.
The main reason i switched over to Metro was because of there $60 dollar data plan for a smart phone compared to he big name phone companys where i was playing over $150.oo a month to have a Iphone data plan i had at the time .
Plus metro does everything that i need's do from phone call's to finding my around the town as need
I get a 20% discount through my employer for AT&T service so its not that expensive for me. I use my data plan several times a week. That being said, its a luxury and if I couldn't afford it I would have a regular phone without data.
Verizon is the most expensive carrier around that I've seen. They've got good coverage but IMO it doesn't justify what they charge.
