You are closer is all.
As far as daily commuting, NJT/PATH is far more cost efficient than LIRR/MNR + Subway.

Okay, so I guess if you're an unfriendly nasty hermit- the city works best. Except perhaps for all the people around you.

Pleasant life > 91939 life.

City culture ≠ suburban culture.
Suburban culture ≠ city culture.

If you value little league teams, community parks, cars, quality schools, safety, trampolines... well then it may very well be much more idealistic than urban living.
You do realize all that can be had within the bounds of NYC, don't you?

But, I agree with your point.

@the OP,

You really need to be a little more specific, 'Manhattan like' is rather vague. I for one have no specific idea of what you mean.

Also, price points, tolerence for taxes, etc.

If the number of people that haved moved from Manhattan, try towns in Essex county, NJ; the Nyacks in Westchester, any number of towns along the Hudson, Greenwhich, CT, and there is Bergen County, NJ. The choice depends on who and what you are.

Trampolines and safety should never be in the same sentence.

There is nothing quite like the trampolines of Times Square.
