Hi
People, please help.......
I have a question:
Will 2 MTA Violation tickets (Summons) within 5 years affect me if I am going to apply for citizenship now? Thanks
Here is more detail about my case: I have got my green card for 7 years but because I don't have that much money, so until now I still did not apply for citizenship in US yet. However, my parents want me to be a US citizen and mentioning about it all the time if I still do not apply for citizenship. Therefore, recently, I visited one of the community service offices located in Brooklyn, that office is actually helping people for free and they can also help fill out the citizenship application online. The person who was helping me fill out the application told me that if I got 2 summons in these 5 years, then I won't be approved and get my citizenship during the interview because of those violation tickets. The only way I can do is wait for another 5 years from the date I received my last ticket, I wonder if that is true or not.

Please let me know all of your opinions....... they will be all helpful to me.... Thank you

If you were told that two summonses in five years would result in your not being approved, then you know exactly what the situation is! I'm not trying to be nasty with this comment, but if you hadn't committed violations, you wouldn't have received summonses.

Its "moral turpitude" which is the problem (thats how USCIS characterizes it). MTA summonses show "lack of good character", which is necessary requirment to be allowed to become a citizen.

They could be a reason for an interviewing officer to deny your application, then again the officer might consider them minor. Certain offenses like DWI etc. will get you denied for sure, but MTA (fare jumping?) may or may not. However, if you can't afford to risk losing your application fee, wait until 5 years since the last summons.
