More than likely I'll take a plane but I rather not go through all that crazy TSA mess
How long has it been since you have flown? Getting through security at the airport is really not much of a hassle. Just look on the TSA website to see what you can and cannot take (most of it is really obvious) and make sure you don't have any liquids/gels that are over whatever the limit is now... 3.8 oz or something? I'm too lazy to Google it.
Then it's just a matter of taking your shoes off, your change out of your pocket, and sending all your **** through the x-ray machine. The biggest hassle is waiting in line.
If you fly you will get there waaaaay faster and will spend a lot less of your vacation mindlessly staring out a window at some trees, when you could be staring at white sand, blue sky, crashing waves, and nice asses.
That LaCubama bus makes so many stops that it becomes a 48 hour trip averaging less than 30 miles per hour...sounds horrific. (You have to call for prices so I have no idea how much of a discount you get for this awful ride.)
If it's for a vacation, I say fly into Ft. Lauderdale or West Palm Beach (which tend to be cheaper than flying into Miami) and then drive the rest of the way. Car rentals are pretty cheap in FL anyway, something like $25 a day. Not to mention MIA airport sucks big time. Southwest and Jet Blue usually have some good deals. If you don't drive, I'm pretty sure there are buses between those airports and Miami.
As for the bus, you will have to change at least 4 times depending on the bus line, and God forbid someone gets sick, has a crying baby the whole way, or some other annoyance, you're pretty much stuck.
I would opt for Amtrak which will cost about the same as the bus or simply fly. The TSA really isn't as much of a hassle as it used to be.
Surprisingly, there's not that much difference in time for either, a little over a day.
And surprisingly, not much difference in price either (Greyhound vs. Amtrac.)
Sitting in a bus for more than 24 hours seems impossible to me. Sitting ANYWHERE for that time almost as incomprehensible. What vacation could be worth the torment?
That TSA is SUCH a hassle at the airport. That's like what -10 mins of your time. Much better to take that 48 hour bus ride for the same price as the 2 hour plane ride.
Now that I think about it those stairs on those buses are SUCH a hassle. Every time the bus stops you have to climb those stairs. What if the bus is a double-decker? Ay dios mio. Instead of dealing with that TSA and stairs hassle why not buy a pogo-stick at toys r us and blaze your own hassle free trail down to MIA.
