I am relocating with my job to NYC ( Columbus Circle) . I am open to living anywhere. I am a minority myself and although not "ghetto" , most people will agree that I am " blend in" very well in a urban to very urban area. I LOVE ethnic eats , loud music , and people hanging out outside and just having a few beers. What I am trying to say is ... I REALLY enjoy living/being in an urban to very urban setting. With that being said , I will work in Colombus Circle in NYC . I was wondering where is the place to live either in NJ or NYC that would be an easy commute to my job. I dont mind living father out if it means taking just one ( maybe 2 ) trains.... Any suggestions ??? THANK YOU !!

PS. I would like my rent to be cheap , obviously ! LOL. I am aware that this is NYC / NJ ... I would like to pay no more than 700$ for rent ..

700? Perhaps a subway station?

Up your budget a little and maybe Jackson heights or Corona in Queens

I hear that the Time Warner Center above Columbus circle are two really nice towers to live in. It has an international clientele so mixed races.
A cute market in the basement too and a couple good restaurants. Most apartments have very nice park views.

(I'm assuming a misprint and the O/P meant $7,000 a month?)

Hmmm, since you don't mind a ghetto type of place, why not live on one that is the cheapest. Probably in East New York or Brownsville. I am sure there are $700 a month apartments there.

I think anywhere in NYC is going to be more than $700 for an apartment. But I have heard that Newark, NJ has some cheaper places. There is a PATH train there that brings you into the city, then you'd just need to take a subway to get to Columbus Circle. I don't have the transportation details, but I have a friend who lives in Newark by a PATH train in an apartment where she is afraid to walk home by herself later than 11pm as there have been muggings in her building -- but she has a quick and easy commute by PATH (20 minutes?) every time she wants to come into the city so she is "happy."

If you don't mind sharing an apartment you'll find a better place at your price.
In NYC you can expect to pay at least $1200 for a nice apartment. Contact some rental brokers and look at the NY newspaper classifieds. Ask around.

Agree. 1200 will get you a nice 1 bedroom in a commutable outberoro neighborhood.
