It's not always the size of the dog that determines whether it is appropriate for an apartment or not--but rather its energy level. There are some very large dogs that are actually better suited for apartment living than some smaller ones for this reason.

Perfect example being Grate Danes they make excellent apt dogs and require very little exercise. When they are puppies u are actually not suppose to encourage them to do lots of running as it can lead to hip displasia. I am looking mainly anywhere in Manhattan my partner and I are moving there next summer and figure we will find some place to live the first year that is affordable and do hard core apt searching after we make the initial move. Want a place that is safe and at least a 1 bedroom not looking for a loft. I am a paramedic and he has his masters in creative writing. He is currently teaching at the college level here in Florida.

I applaud the Landlords who have size restrictions and how many can be allowed in a apt.

Another Perfect Example...this time of why forums are so annoying to use...people never stay on topic, it is like an open call for people to ignorately & self-riteously push their views on other people.

To those of you that gave thoughtful, on topic, and helpful comments, thank you.

We have a 65 pound Golden Retriever and live in a one bedroom in Manhattan very comfortably. We live one block from Central Park, where my well exercised dog gets one hour of off leash running time after a ball daily plus three 30 minute walks, but finding the apartment was not easy. We had to use a broker and found townhouse landlords were more amenable to large dog pets than most highrises. You will find an apartment that will accomodate your big pup with work and persistence!

Why not a 950 pound horse in a studio apartment?

Put large dogs in large houses with large grounds. I know that sounds like common sense and common sense can be offensive to pet owners. But it should be given a shot!
