Its possible the driver owns the cab (medallion) or wasnt taking any passengers. I see NYC cabs a lot in Nassau County, and one of my ex boyfriends parents drove a cab for decades, he used to park his yellow cab in Queens and then turn the lights on once he got into Manhattan to pick up fares.

It was quite strange. If I remember correctly, his light was on!

The farthest away I've seen a New York Taxicab?

Daytona Beach, FL

It was parked in the garage of the hotel I was staying at.

As far as nyc taxi cabs in NJ ......... aside from the random person getting a cab ride into nj...... apparently, alot of owner operators live in the central NJ suburbs and drive thier cabs into nyc.

Probably Hoboken. I don't understand why people just can't take a train!

Yeah, that was most likely the case. Just to clarify for everyone, it doesn't necessarily have to be taking passengers

One could argue that Florida is really an extension of the NYC metro area which doesn't make it that far away at all

Toronto, Canada for a movie shoot. Looked just like a regular cab. Of course everyone was gawking at it as if they'd never stepped foot in NYC in their lives. Pretty funny sight considering it's something we take for granted.

I see NYC cabs almost daily in my neighborhood in Jersey City. I always scratch my head when it's during daylight/early evening hours ... taking the PATH subway is definitely quicker than a cab!
