Hi just need some advice .. (29+ ,Male, single professional)
just looked at a place on 238th between Sedgewick and Orloff in the Bronx. Interested in knowing the saftey of the area. Honestly, any input on the area would be greatly appreciated.

I live in central Riverdale
so i get access to that area's crime reports in the local papers. honestly i see a lot of incidents in the local paper cited in that Van Cortlandt Village/Ft Independence area (mostly quick street robberies, hardly any violent)
however that is a very nice, attractive area, and despite what i mentioned above, pretty safe

if i am accurate
the street you speak of may have a step street. often many robberies are committed on step streets in the area

I think you're right.....I think 238th Street has a big step street from Kingsbridge Terrace to Sedgewick Avenue.

not gangs
or packs of criminals, incidents are usually one or two perps at most

It's a nice neighborhood.Crime is pretty infrequent. Most of the apartment buildings in the neighborhood are Co Ops.Lots of trees and lots of nice houses.Numerous subway and bus options to midtown and close to Van Cortlandt Park.

Could you tell me what papers you use to get your stats? I am from the area and I have never experienced crime. Sure there are some unsavory characters every now and then but then again this is NYC and there is crime almost everywhere. IF any crime is in the area, it is usually in the Marble Hill projects....but the 50th precinct keeps a leash on the animals that live on the Bailey project building
The entire neighborhood comes under the 50th precinct.....here's a link...
http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloa...s/cs050pct.pdf
and
NYPD - Precinct Finder
To the OP, I like the area. Its convenient to all the major highways and public transportation. Streets are quiet at night....but there are exceptions. The streets you mentioned are extremely quiet and are very safe....
