How hard is it to get into with a bachelor's in criminal justice and native second language (Russian), but no relevant experience?
It'd be no different than someone who meets the minimum qualifications(60 college credits or 4 years of honorable military service). You take a civil service test, need to score at least a 70 on it and wait. Although, having a bachelor's will allow you to reach higher ranks within the department(up to a certain rank). Speaking Russian will allow you to be assigned to a precinct that has a significant Russian population or a unit that requires that language skill.
For many, this would be their first job out of school.

You tell them the truth. They allegedly test for hair samples and will go through your background thoroughly.

I don't know how that works but I assume if you want to join a unit like that, you need to have a certain amount of experience within the department and once they have openings, you apply. You just can't tell them in the academy that you want to join their counter-terror unit and they'll put you down on a list or something.
I was wondering if I could just IM chat somewhere with a cop or ex cop, preferably NYPD. I was thinking about being a cop, but I have a lot of questions and hopefully someone can help me. I know I can chat with a recruiter on their web site, but I need a personal perspective.
any additional, general info? (how's the job like and everything, especially for new officers)
