Me and my bf is looking for a studio apt to rent in queens area. So far all the brokers we've seen said that either the studio is too small for two people, or the landlord will not allow two people to live in the studio. Yet, they showed us 1 bedroom apartment that equally small or even smaller than a studio apt. Is it true that two people are not allowed to live in a studio apartment in NYC?

Not true, a lot landlords do allow two people in studios.. However, some landlords (mostly private owners) may not want two people living in a studio for various reasons and that is at their discretion.

That's what I thought. Broker sucks. We finally got a nice decent apartment ourselves by walking and asking around the neighborhood, and we actually upgraded to one bedroom since we saved some money by not paying broker fees.

Good news that you found something. But you should've concluded that the broker sucks when he/she told you that some studio was too small for two people. That should have been your call, not the broker's. They probably just wanted to try and sell you something more expensive.

A large studio apt. is suitable for 2 people and a good broker would have told you so.
