I'm trying to find an apt. in the city for my daughter. She will be starting graduate school soon. $1000. is my limit. Is it possible to find anything that's in a good (SAFE) neighborhood.
Sort of depends on what school she is going to doesn't it ?
Why?? There are buses and subways to get wherever she needs to be. And if she's going to school in Manhattan, she's not going to get any apartments in a decent part of Manhattan for $1K unless she wants a room-mate or 2.

Well, you wouldn't tell someone sending their kid to Pratt to have her live in Flushing. To some extent, this matters.
Yes, try Queens (e.g., Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Jackson Heights) or south/central Brooklyn (e.g., Bay Ridge, Kensington, Ditmas Park). $1000 should get you a studio in any of those places.
