I may either got to NYU or Fordham but I don't have to live right by the school. What are some affordable (as well as relatively safe) areas to live in NYC? What neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan (I know its a stretch), could I live in for $1000 a month...$900 would be phenomenal. Thanks

There are a few nice, affordable neighborhoods very close to Fordham.Bedford Park,Pelham Parkway and Morris Park.In those neighborhoods you can find very nice, big studio apartments in nice buildings for under 1,000/mo.... mostly around 900 or 950.1 bedroom apartments tend to be around 1,100/mo.

It will be nearly impossible to find under 1,000/mo rents anywhere near NYU or in any of the Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods that are easy to get to from NYU.

Will you be renting by yourself or having a roommate? If you look for a roommate you might be able to live in a nice area. If you want to go alone for 1K, you will have to live in a shady (during the night time area).

Educational Housing Services - You should look at this housing that Baruch college offers to students

Why not dorm for 1 semester just in case you don't like NYU or Fordham and want to go home? Also, in that 1 semester, you can find some friends who would like to rent an apt instead of dorming.

If you sign a 1 yr lease and that happens it will be a hassle to get out of the contract.
